I know. That sounds wrong.
Or does it, really?
We have been programmed for better or worse that to think such thoughts is selfish and is essentially a bad trait. Usually the villains in the stories are portrayed to be as such while the heroes are the ones that put others before self, risking their lives and saving many in the process.
Now, I am not saying that we have been taught a lie all this time but there is a need to further understand this concept.
When you have put yourself first, you fill up your tank to a point where you are in a position to fill others’ up. However, if you do not replenish your draining tank, you will be depleted soon enough.
This usually results in you becoming fed up or tired of helping others, not because you have lost your passion to help. Often times you would not even know what the problem is.
And it usually is because you have given so much while not filling yourself up in the process that the imbalance causes you to not enjoy the act after a while.
In any case, give this some thought and see if it rings true for you.
