At some point in our lives, we might have thought or worry about someone being ahead or better than us at something we were pursuing. That might have cost us some sleepless nights and constant worry of how we could overcome the competition. Hopefully that does not apply to you but I know that some of us have indeed gone through that ordeal.
Now, as much as the intention is to not over simplify the emotional turmoil that some have went through, it is important to remember that there is no real benefit in worrying about the competition.
Firstly, they become your competition when you acknowledge them as such. And secondly, but very crucial point to note is that who they are or what they do is beyond your control. With this two points, you can see that you have the power to change your situation for the better.
When you acknowledge them as your competition, you are giving them the power for you to cause doubt in your own capabilities. So don’t do that. And always remember that you can never control someone else, all things being equal. He or she could be training harder or learning more or have a higher metabolism or born into a well connected family. These are things that you cannot possibly control. But what you can very well do is to be better than you were yesterday.
So save those precious limited energy worrying about your competition and start channeling it to you. Yes, you. Ultimately, you are your own competition.
